Dr. Jingjie Zhang, a chief water quality scientist at Hydroinformatics Institute, has been appointed as a visiting research professor at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Shenzhen, China.

Jingjie will be helping develop research and application projects related to integrated catchment-scale water quality modeling in both freshwater and marine water systems and will also guide students’ modeling work.

With more than 20 years of industrial and research experience in the areas related to computer and environmental science and engineering, Dr Jingjie Zhang has been working on various national and international projects in China, Denmark, USA and Singapore, including several high-profile consulting projects under UNEP. His interests both in theoretical study and in consultancy in water-related areas span a wide range of topics, covering ecological and environmental modeling, ecosystem health and environmental impact assessment, ecological engineering and ecosystem restoration. He is particularly interested in integrated catchment-scale monitoring and modeling approaches to addressing various environmental and ecological problems. Dr. Zhang has also been actively involved in conducting short-term training courses for government and industrial employees as well as colleagues, mentoring and supervising Master and PhD students.
