The objective of the project is to establish the impact of multiple factors on the water quality of the sludge lagoon overflow discharge at Choa Chu Kang Waterworks. This analysis involves both water quality modelling and monitoring.

 

Modelling

This involves establishing the impact of multiple factors on the water quality of the sludge lagoon overflow discharge, including rainfall, stopping sludge residual discharge into the lagoon, the removal and dewatering of sludge from the sludge lagoon, and the dryness of the lagoon with respect to solids content after considering the impact of rainfall events and evaporation losses. We will then be able to provide a recommendation on the depth at which sludge removal should be targeted.

 

Monitoring

This involves water sampling at a location where lagoon overflow has been observed, in-situ monitoring of water quality along the water column in the lagoon, and sediment sampling. This is carried out to validate the model.
